For those entering into their first marriages (civilly or religiously), marriage preparation is an exploration of what marriage means, how to learn and love as a couple, and planning for the wedding.
For those already married civilly, the Catholic Church will recognize the marriage, provided all necessary paperwork is completed, couples attend pre-sacramental marriage counseling with the clergy, and previous marriages are non-existent or annulled. Convalidations can be done as a private or public ceremony.
Those with previous marriages (civilly and religiously), are still invited to be full members of the Catholic Church and participate as much as possible in Parish life. Remarrying will require extra steps in order to learn from one's previous marriages, prove that the marriage can be annulled on grounds provided by canon law, and complete pre-sacramental marriage counseling with the clergy. Please note that annulments usually take a minimum of 6 months and a favorable decision is not guaranteed.
A blessing is a good word spoken to us by God. For those celebrating an anniversary, unable to receive a sacramental marriage at this time, or are at an impasse due to irregular situations, you may request a blessing from the priest. Note that this is not a sacrament of the Catholic Church and at certain times, not a public ceremony.
Never set a date for a wedding until meeting with a clergy member in order to establish the freedom to marry in the Catholic Church.
If you are preparing for marriage, unsure about your current marital status according to the Catholic Church, or need guidance on possible ways forward, please schedule a meeting with our pastor. He will be glad to meet with you and explore your options together.
